Gene Clardy was a mentor of Willie Narmour. Many say the Clardy was the author of C.C. Blues, though most say Narmour wrote it.
BTW, it was through Narmour and Smith the MS John Hurt was first discovered.

I first met Clarence and Roland playing in a bar, Baldwin Park, CA, about 1976. So they let me set in on elec bass. Seems like Roger 'Bush was on Banjo. Years later, about 1983, Rollin grew the Kentucky Col. beard, and appeared at the California Bluegrass Association Show, Grass Valley, CA. I went over and we talked over old times.
Poor Clarence left way too soon.

Hey. I just bought one of these on ebay. I know that yours has been sold, but I was going to ask you about the case: I'm pretty sure I will need one if it arrives without it in a box. Did you get yours from Fender or is custom made?

Wanted to give y'all an update on Billy Ray. He's still struggling a bit with his recovery ... but he did a show last weekend at a "Mayberry" styled festival in Vine Grove, Kentucky. I'll be doing some shows with him on July 10, 2012 at the Kentucky Repertory Theatre in Horse Cave and on September 15, 2012 at the Horse Cave Heritage Festival.
Chris--I don't know who played on that record. My country music discography only goes up to WWII, so there's not always a lot of good reliable information regarding personnel on postwar records. That was released on Mercury's bargain-priced label, and I can't find any good documentation on it.
