Dragging and drumming and driving

By Kenneth Rainey. Filed under: TweedBlog, video. Tags:

More mysterious driving and drumming from the streets of Chicago. This time, the soundtrack comes from our second CD, the leadoff track, “Draggin’ the Bow”. I’m guessing this was shot under the Lake Street El tracks.

I just got a note from the auteur. Maybe we’ll have him sit in on the steering wheel sometime soon.

Honeysuckle Rose at OTS

Here’s some video footage of us at our last Old Town School show two years ago. It’s one of the handful of jazz tunes we play, “Honeysuckle Rose” by Fats Waller. We’ll be back on stage this Saturday, the 17th for two shows with Jerry Douglas.

Tangleweed Banjoist protests Promoter Ordinance

Tangleweed’s own Ryan Fisher was recently featured in a documentary about the proposed Promoter Ordinance in Chicago. You can check out his segment below, and also view the entire documentary here. The documentary was produced by JaGoFF, presented in conjunction with TheRecordIndustry.com.

Since its proposal, the ordinance has been tabled thanks to the large outcry by Chicago’s independent music community. This means the issue can still become active at any point, so it’s important for everyone to stay vigilant. We’ll keep you updated on the TweedBlog if any new information becomes available. Also, here’s a good resource with links related to the issue:

You can download the entire audio portion of the radio program on our website here.

Tangleweed at Wakarusa 2007 Video

Here are the final two songs from our Wakarusa ‘07 set, “Heroin” by Velvet Underground and “The Orange Blossom Special”, featuring a quick chunk of “Interstellar Overdrive” by Pink Floyd.

Most of the hair you see on Billy’s head in this vid has since been donated to Wigs For Kids, and that pole holding the tent up apologizes for somewhat blocking your view of Paul playing bass.

Big Thanks again to Bret Mosiman for booking us at Wakarusa – we had a fantastic time.

Campfire set at Deer Valley

By Billy Oh. Filed under: TweedBlog, video.

Here’s some video footage of us playing around a campfire at Deer Valley YMCA Camp in Pennsylvania. We played to an appreciative crowd of Scott’s family and friends in front of a beautiful setting. It was a nice cap to our Appalachian tour. This excerpt includes Listen to the Mockingbird, High on a Mountain, and Ginseng Blues.

Video of Red Foley singing Freight Train Boogie

There’s not a lot of Delmore Brothers footage out there, but there are some good clips of other folks playing Delmore Brothers songs. Here’s Red Foley taking on one of their later songs: Freight Train Boogie. That’s Grady Martin playing the groovy Bigsby double-neck.

It’ll tickle your innards: vintage Mountain Dew commercial

Ethnic stereotypes are on parade in this 1960s commercial, in which hillbilly cartoon characters guzzle caffeinated sugar water and play with firearms. The soundtrack uses the Bascom Lamar Lunsford tune Old Mountain Dew, and one of the characters sure sounds like Grandpa Jones.
