Tangleweed On Ice
Some of our more ardent fans might know that Kip and I play hockey together. Hopefully many of you have enjoyed reading about Kip’s tiny backyard icerink. If not, see here: http://www.tangleweed.org/blog/?p=264. Our previously lame Chicago winter has gone fully arctic on us, so the skating’s as good as it gets out there right now.
I’m excited today because I finally upgraded my skates. I replaced my 1984 CCM Super Tacks with a brand new pair of Bauer Vapor XIX’s:
I started playing hockey in 1972 and played steadily until 1990. I just started up again a few months ago, at Kip’s strong urging. We’re on a men’s league team called The Machine. Several of our teammates saw Tangleweed play at Martyrs recently (quote of the night: “I don’t know much about this kind of music, but if there’s always this many girls here, I’ll come see you guys all the time!”).
Someday maybe we’ll post a few childhood hockey pictures of ourselves (complete with the stupid haircuts and mis-matched uniforms of any self-respecting child of the 70’s). For now, please join me in relishing the hyper-modern, form-fitted glory of my new blades.
p.s. It is my personal goal for Tangleweed to someday perform an on-ice gig. Billy Oh also played hockey as a kid, so at least three of us could do the mobile, wireless bluegrass-on-skates thing. Stay tuned for more.

Hi Scott: Great report. I am proud of you for purchasing new skates and other misc. eqpt. I am sure they will serve you well, especially the skates. Bet Kevin is also envious of you. Let me know how they perform. Also bet your teammates will not even recognize you all jazzed up with new gear. What are you going to do with the old stuff? If you start a collection, I will send you all that crap from the basement.
Do you have any idea where pictures of your early hockey days are? If so, I could look some up for you. Otherwise, it will have to await your next N.E. visit. Think your idea of a gig on skates is a good one. Be sure to invite me.
Have a great weekend and GO BEARS.
Love,
Dad

HI SCOTT! Great news on new skates, I’m thinking they were a long time coming and hope you fly to victory in your first game. Looking forward to the gig on ice. Dad and I will be there in the wings, I can bring my old green and yellow pom poms from days of cheering on the Roxbury teams. Talk about glory days, how embarrassing!! LOVE YOU, JANI

Bro - Outstanding news. What a blast into the current hockey equipment world! Glad to see you have jumped completely back into the greatest sport in the world. We’ll have to see if we can get Lambeau Field to host another game so you can lug the new blades to Green Bay and break them in on the hallowed ground of the Packers. I have got to arrange a business trip so I can catch a game. Light the lamp bro!
Vin
