Here’s a cool shot from the Just a Spoonful recording session back in November, 2004.
Just a Spoonful was an attempt to make a modern field recording. The sessions were in the living room in the second floor of Scott’s two-flat. Bob Weston set up a small control room in a small bedroom just off the living room, and used vintage analog gear to capture everything live to two track. Everything was recorded in one day, no edits, and no overdubs. We blew through most of the tracks we knew, and seldom took more than two passes at any tune. We filled up two tape reels, and called it a day.
We eventually picked 12 tunes for the release. One of the tunes that didn’t make it, ‘Farewell Blues’, wound up on our second CD, Where You Been So Long?. Another, an original instrumental ditty called ‘Whiskey in the Hall’ still shows up in our sets from time to time.
Scott’s extra living room was pressed into service as a recording studio again a few months after Just a Spoonful came out. The Siderunners recorded an acoustic EP with Bob in the same space.
