Blind Willie Johnson singing If I Had My Way, I’d Tear this Building Down

More great music from the 78rpm era, courtesy of Archive.org. If I Had My Way was recorded in Dallas on December 3, 1927 for Columbia. This is included in the very good Columbia/ Legacy anthology The Complete Blind WIllie Johnson.

Johnson was equally adept as a slide guitarist. His piece, ‘Dark Was the Night, Cold Was the Ground’ is one of the most transcendently beautiful pieces of music one will ever hear.
