Dave Pirner’s appearance on the new Hold Steady sent me back to listening to my old Soul Asylum records. People who know only their ‘Runaway Train’ era work missed out on a timewhen these guys were one of the best live bands on the planet. Exhibit 1: Soul Asylum playing ‘Sometime to Return’ on MTV. Nice job slipping the f word past the censors, boys.
