Jethro Burns is the finest mandolin player I’ve ever heard. He and Homer Haynes run through two of their most popular tunes in this old TV clip from around 1970. His solo in their parody of the Bob Wills tune ‘San Antonio Rose’ is absolutely mind-blowing, particularly the triplet flourishes at the end.
The Dillards are hands-down our favorite bluegrass band. We’ve recorded several songs from their repertoire: Banjo in the Hollow, Katy Kline, and Black-Eyed Susie, to name a few. The Dillards made several appearances on the Andy Griffity show as the Darling Boys. Here they are playing their song “Dooley”.
