The Chicago-based acoustic Americana group Tangleweed has been named as a semi-finalist in this year’s International Songwriting Competition (ISC). Their song, ‘Wrap Yourself’, penned by banjoist Ryan Fisher, was picked from a pool of over 15,000 songs to reach the semmifinals in the AAA/Roots/Americana category. It will compete against 53 other semi-finalists in the category for a spot in the contest finals. (more…)

This Saturday night I’ll be playing at the Hideout in Chicago with my old Kennett Brothers bandmates Ed Burch and Andy Leach. We’re sharing a bill with Cameron McGill and Gray. We’re first on the bill, and should start around 9pm.

We’ll be joining Michael James on his ‘Live at the Heartland’ radio program this Saturday morning (Jan 14). We’ll be adding a little music to the usual mix of chat about politics and the arts. The show broadcasts live from the Heartland Cafe in Chicago on WLUW 88.7FM.

If you’re up early, come on out and join us for a little breakfast music. The show runs from 9-10am.

Tangleweed is filling in for the Hoyle Brothers ‘Sinner Sunday’ show at the Empty Bottle. It’s an afternoon show, so the Bears game will be on the TV, and we’ll be on stage providing musical accompaniment. Music starts at 4. Free!

Tangleweed will be doing a 15-minute live in the studio set on Billy J Ivers’ ‘Live and Kicking’ bluegrass show on WLUW radio in Chicago. The show will be streamed live on WLUW’s web site. We’ll be on the air at about 12 noon.
