Studio postmortem

We had a good session with Mike Hagler at King Size yesterday. We tracked four songs:

  • Medley: Sir Lucas de Sommerville/ The Musical Priest/ Whiskey Before Breakfast
  • Drunkard’s Blues
  • I Found a New Baby
  • Ginseng Blues

Almost everything was tracked live. We overdubbed vocals and some of the solos. Scott Judd took a rare guitar solo. Billy doubled some of his fiddle parts. Everybody gathered around a mic and hollered a little. We’re pleased with the results. More info later.

More airplay in Wisconsin

By Kenneth Rainey. Filed under: News, TweedBlog.

Milwaukee’s excellent community radio station WTPS has been playing Tangleweed’s Just a Spoonful enough for it to register in their top 30 chart.

Check out their website for more info, or view a PDF of the chart here.

Thanks!

Nice review of Just a Spoonful from Sweden

By Kenneth Rainey. Filed under: News, Reviews, TweedBlog.

Gert-Ove Fridlund wrote a nice review of Just a Spoonful for the Swedish daily Hallandsposten. He gave our debut CD four of five stars.

If you’re interested and can read a little Swedish, you can download the review as a PDF. As for me, tyvärr talar jag inte svenska. Jag behöver hjälp.

Today your love, tomorrow your cheese

By Kenneth Rainey. Filed under: News, TweedBlog.

Phase two of the Tangleweed world domination plan is underway. We’ve been getting airplay all over the world (at least fifteen countries, at last count), and now we’re on the radio in Wisconsin. Many thanks to Tom Martin-Erickson for playing our Train 45 on his fine Public Radio program, Simply Folk.

Thanks, Wisconsin. We’re sorry for beating your football team.

You can view a pdf of the playlist here.

Tomorrow night @ The Charleston

By site admin. Filed under: GigBlog, News, TweedBlog.

Tangleweed is playing our last show of the year this Friday night (December 9th) at The Charleston in Chicago’s Bucktown neighborhood. The Charleston has gone smoke-free, so you can damage your liver without harming your lungs.

Filling in for our fine fiddler, Billy Oh, will be the Kevin Burrows, aka the ‘Mayor of Bucktown’, and his arsenal of harmonicas. Music starts at 10 and runs ’til they cut off the booze at last call.

New MP3s on our music page

I freshened up some of the tunes on the Music page.

There’s a new track up there, ‘Hard Times’, from our as-yet-unnamed second CD. We recorded it last month with Mike Hagler at King Size. It hasn’t been mastered yet, but it still sounds pretty damn decent. Mike does good work.

For those folks who still don’t have our fine debut CD, there’s another track up for you to check out, our version of the classic ‘Make Me a Pallet on the Floor’.

There’s also a link to a video of us playing two songs at an Old Town School of Folk Music benefit for New Orleans musicians.
