Tramps, Hobos, and Rail Jumpers

By Paul. Filed under: TweedBlog.

Memorial day I had a blast out in Union riding antique locomotives. The Illinois Railway Museum is a great place to spend an afternoon with or without the kids. They have a number of trains, and trolleys on display, and operate different ones on different days. Last weekend they were running the Nebraska Zephyer featured in the movie “A league of their own”

Tangleweed off-shoot

By Scott. Filed under: TweedBlog.

I recently recorded a banjo part on a rock song called “Never Liked It Here Much Anyway”, by my good friends Milk At Midnight. Their new e.p. just came out, and this particular song has received good press thus far, garnering a positive review from at least one on-line zine (who’s name/link I can’t recall right now), and better still, several plays on WXRT’s “Local Anasthetic”, hosted by Richard Milne. Check the CAPSULE version of this show for another run of this tune on Sat. 5/28 at 4:45 pm - http://www.wxrt.com/program/detail/local_capsule.html

Mind you, I’m no Ryan Fisher, but I do own a banjo, and in this instance, I can be heard playing it on what I think is a great song by a great band. Credit goes to MAM’s drummer Eric for wanting banjo on this song in the first place, and coaching me into form on my bouncy support part (that was pretty much his musical advice - BOUNCE, JUST BOUNCE!).

I’ve played it twice on stage with the band recently, and hope to do it again soon (though I may have to use a big-a$$ amp instead of going direct like I have in the past - banjo vs. MARSHALLS always loses out, don’t ya know).

Church sign generator

By Kenneth Rainey. Filed under: OffTopic, TweedBlog.

Tonight: puppet show and tangleweed Here’s a cool little web app that you can use to generate an image of a church sign with custom text. In the interest of good taste, the sample you see at right contains only a benign Spinal Tap reference.

Lawn Darts are dangerous and should be destroyed

By Kenneth Rainey. Filed under: OffTopic, TweedBlog.

Lawn Darts--delicious but deadly While in the process of getting our CD listed on Amazon.com, I took a moment to look at the list of things that you can’t sell on Amazon. The fourth item from the bottom caught my eye: Products that have been recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (SPSC). (more…)

Independent music discovery program

By Kenneth Rainey. Filed under: OffTopic, TweedBlog.

There’s an interesting new program you can use to find independent music that you like. It’s called Indy. Indy has a large database of free music, and it combines your ratings with those of other users to direct you to stuff you’re likely to dig.

It’s adware and spyware free, and available for Windows and Mac machines.
